Initially, Jairzinho was forced to play on the left wing as the player’s hero and former great Garrincha played in his favoured position on the right. Following the retirement of Garrincha after the 1966 World Cup Jairzinho was moved to right wing for both club and country which is where the player achieved his greatest success. Jairzinho went on to record his place in the history books by scoring in every round of the 1970 World Cup Finals. In total he scored 33 goals in 81 games for Brazil.
